These books will be part of a collaborative library and book trading project for students of color in Dallas. Students will be able to choose one of these important and engaging texts, read it either at home or at school, and then write a brief note to future readers. The goal is that students will be able to read texts where they see themselves represented, learn about important issues, and take part in an ever-evolving conversation about books that will inform the classroom library for years to come. This project is built on the belief that when students have access to texts in which they see themselves represented that address important topics, they will want to read and develop their own views about society.
