When I went to school, I had very little exposure to American Indian history and culture. I want my students to be exposed to all the diversity our country has to offer, and I aim to do this through literature. Literature is an excellent way to expose students to different perspectives and life experiences, especially when those different points of view are not part of their daily life. By reading "The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian", in addition to studying American Indian history and art will provide students with the well-rounded background knowledge that they'll be able to apply to their lives.
