These iPads will be a life changing resource for my little learners. One of the important skills that students learn in the primary years of elementary school involves learning how to write their letters and numbers. Now that we are in distant online learning a majority of our work and assignments are expected to be completed online. My class is fortunate to have access to laptops, but the small trackpad provided does not support my students necessary handwriting development. My first graders had their Kindergarten year cut short which is why it is now more important than ever that they are able to learn and develop the necessary fine-motor skills required to write effectively and proficiently. Little hands need to develop dexterity and strength. My students cannot learn how to write their letters, or numbers by using their laptops little trackpad. They deserve the opportunity to write their letters, numbers, and sentences in a way that most resembles the use of a pencil. This is why I am asking you to donate. If my students had access to iPads and styluses they could practice writing their letters, numbers, and sentences in a way that supports their fine-motor skills. While it is difficult that we have to teach and learn remotely, that doesn't mean that our students have to sacrifice important skills that they would have had the opportunity to learn if we were able to safely conduct instruction in the classroom. My students want nothing more than to learn, and are excited to log on to zoom everyday, but they always express how difficult it is to write with their trackpads at home. Please help foster my little writers handwriting skills while they are learning at home.
