Music provides my students joy and connection, all while promoting ownership and practice habits. Giving my students the opportunity to play an ukulele will give them experience in practicing as individuals and with a group, while strengthening their fine motor skills. Along with practicing, my students will learn responsibility and caring for an instrument, and their understanding of management and being accountable for an important classroom item will help them to make better decisions. As they move into middle and high school, those choices will highly encourage them to stay involved in programs in these higher grade levels. Most importantly, having students learn to play the ukulele will bring them contentment and moments of connecting with their classmates. After a long period of time being away from their peers, my students now have the chance to make happy music and help each other to do better on a daily basis. Reflecting on our sounds and songs and conversing about our improvements will be the ultimate musical motivation!
