Our student body consists generally the same demographic. This lack of student diversity can make students that belong to marginalized groups feel even more ostracized among their peers. We aspire to give students that belong to marginalized groups adequate representation in our school libraries to enhance the educational journey of all students in our district. Having books that represent all student groups allow all students to see themselves as role models and creates a positive self image. Learning about different cultures and experiences can help students to empathize with students who are different from them, whether those differences be in regards to race, sexuality, gender, or religion. By diversifying K-8 libraries with books, we can create a more loving and inclusive community for our future students and children.
