We will focus on the social-emotional well-being of our 5th graders from day one. Our students have been working remotely for six months and when they come back we want to help them make an easy transition. We will begin our first unit of Teacher's College Reading and Writing which focuses on finding strength. This unit requires everyone to have their own copy of "Home of the Brave" by Katherine Applegate. All of our students will be able to work collaboratively whether in person or at home if they all have this book. In this story, a boy leaves Africa to come to America and learns how to cope and navigate successfully in his "new normal". Our students are experiencing something similar with the current pandemic. We want to help them navigate this "new normal".
