The items I selected will help with academic goals. These items include the Leapfrog Leaptop, wall posters for visual aids, reading rods to help with forming sentences, and puzzles and LEGO bricks for fine motor skills. My students range greatly in abilities so I have resources that span several educational levels.
The items I chose will help my students by providing them with choices about how they would like to master a skill. I picked items that provide hands-on activities to help them with fine motor skills while working towards their IEP goals. I selected visual and tactile items for a multi-sensory approach for my ASD students.
Some of the goals we are working towards are social development, letter and number recognition, adding and subtracting, forming sentences, hygiene and independent living, and fine motor skills.
I also picked puzzles and games that students can use to work independently and collaboratively, focusing on their personal likes.
I am new to autism education so I haven't built up my arsenal of resources as many teachers have. I am so appreciative of anyone willing to help me start collecting items that will help me be successful in educating my group of unique and amazing students!
