Print dictionaries will be a important tool in my classroom. Yes there are plenty of online dictionary resources but there is something about a paper dictionary. It is an essential tool for learning in the classroom and at home. The mere act of flipping through its pages and discovering the meaning of a word along with colorful pictures opens up a new world bursting with unexpected learning opportunities for kids. Dictionaries will be used at home and at school. They will help build a bridge between home and school learning. I look forward to teaching parts of speech, creating reference guides with students. The sky is the limit when dictionaries are used in classroom instruction.
