I LOVE to read, and because of that my students love reading as well. We love reading and sharing books, and I find that if we can connect a topic to a picture book, my students have a greater understanding. I am starting this year teaching about different parts of reading and writing, so I am asking for books that will help me accomplish that. I'm also asking for some books on one of the recommended booklists from Social Justice Books in order to make sure my classroom is one where students can find access to diverse books as well as see themselves reflected in our classroom library. Picture books can make a complex topic more accessible to younger readers. We've already learned so much through our shared reading experiences this year and I know that with the addition of these books we will have even more amazing conversations.
