Sketchbooks are a versatile and extremely necessary material for learning how to make art, remote or in-person. They serve as a place to sketch ideas, journal, and practice drawing, painting, and a variety of other methods of mark-making. In the remote-learning world, sketchbooks will be a valuable tool in virtual lessons and self-directed assignments. Because most of my students come from economically disadvantaged households, they don’t have the means to purchase their own sketchbooks or an adequate supply of unlined, blank paper to create art on. The ability to supply my students with sketchbooks means they will have an essential material for their education.
