Due to COVID-19, music class will look different than it has in years past. No singing, no partner dancing, no circle games, no sharing of instruments. These instruments will allow my students to learn and grow as people and musicians. The ukulele strings will be used to replace the strings on the class set. Those strings are old: some are missing, some are broken. For my students to have the hands-on musical experience, the instruments all need to be functioning. Hand drums and rhythm sticks will be used to teach rhythms, create rhythm patterns, and perform songs without singing. Boomwhackers are plastic tubes tuned to musical pitches by length. They make it easy to read notes and practice rhythms on a staff because they are color-coded. By removing the colors slowly, students will be able to read music before they move on to recorders and ukuleles! Students will also be able to improvise, create their music, express themselves in a safe environment. And they're super fun!
