For many students, writing is not the most exciting thing to do. Therefore, finding ways to motivate students to write is of utmost importance. I want my students to enjoy writing and recognize it as a way to express themselves. Most students need an extra push to write. BoomWriter is a great way for students to practice writing while being rewarded. The more students write, the more points they will earn. They can use these points to customize their avatar. The great part is that I can send students immediate feedback. They can revise and make changes as many times as needed. Then after I approve the piece, the students earn their points. With BoomWriter, I can assign students creative writing projects with story prompts. They will also be able to collaborate on projects together and give each other feedback. They can also be assigned journal prompts and word study assignments. These word study projects will be especially beneficial for remote learners who are not able to be in class, and will reinforce skills they aren’t able to practice with one-on-one help. Since I teach both in-person and remote classes, BoomWriter will also make it easier for remote learners to collaborate with their in-person peers. Overall, I'm hoping that this will ignite their love for writing while reinforcing other skills through practice and application.
