Virtual learning has the potential to be as rewarding as in-person education, or even more so if technology is utilized effectively. This year, all of my classes will be virtual only due to my own compromised immune system and the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. I am working hard to provide rich and engaging content for my students on a daily basis from my home. However, my aging laptop does not have the ability to screen share lesson content that includes video or even audio without crashing. It frequently hits 100% utilization before crashing completely, requiring me to restart class. This has been extremely frustrating to my students and been a barrier to maintaining the momentum of class. This computer would fix that. It's the cheapest well-reviewed computer I could find with an up to date processor and a graphics card. It says it's a "gaming" computer but I am not a "gamer" - this would solve my issues with overwhelming my computer while sharing material with my students, allowing them a consistent and reliable learning experience despite the difficult circumstances we are in. I chose a desktop because it's something I can upgrade and maintain for years to come, and use in my classroom in-person as well to benefit my students learning well into the future. It is essential for this year, but it will be benefiting students for much, much longer.
