The picture books were carefully selected to ensure my classroom library was inclusive for all students, including the cultural backgrounds of the students in my class. Picture books are one of the easiest and most effective ways teachers can create a sense of awareness. A wide variety of topics are covered in picture books, and reading them to young children helps us talk about important topics through a kid-friendly connection. When we open a book, a child immediately tries to identify with the story's characters. By building a library of classroom books with characters from a variety of cultural backgrounds, I hope my students "see" themselves within the characters and feel a deeper connection to the story and messages within the stories. It is essential to create a classroom environment that is welcoming, so celebrating and representing the varying cultures of my students is of utmost importance. There is a gift card for Teachers Pay Teachers included as well. There are teaching and learning resources available on TPT that will allow me to include even more cultural studies into our curriculum.
