Our students have to make decisions on a daily basis in school and outside of school. At times our students find themselves in difficult situations due to the decisions they have made. Academic intervention provides students with the structure and ability to reflect on their behavior through conflict resolution practices and community service. We, as a school want to keep our students in school and avoid suspension, because when our students our in our building they can be provided with the social emotional support they may need, and they also learn how their behavior has impacted not only themselves but the school community. What we would like to do for our students is provide them with an area in the building that is known as the calming room. In the calming room students can go into the room after a stressful encounter, to have a peace circle, or just have few minutes to ground themselves to return back to class. We also want to implement community service during the day as a way to give back to the school community and not just give student consequences but team building experiences.
