My students attend a non-traditional school. Part of the school is dedicated to "alternative" students who do not to well in a typical classroom setting. They need to be exposed to smaller classes and different teaching methods in order to be successful. The other part of the school is dedicated to students that have been expelled from their home schools for a variety of reasons. Although my students participate in two different learning programs, they all share a lot on common. Most of them struggle with poverty, and many join gangs because they feel that it is their only option. My students tend to give up when a task becomes difficult, usually because they don't feel as though the skills that they have are enough to get them through. My school is dedicated to helping these students return to their home schools with the skills that they need in order to flourish.
