The book "Our Class is a Family" and reading tools will be delivered to each student and facilitate a face-to-face meeting between myself and them. This gift will promote classroom climate and belonging, and should help with the difficulty of not being able to begin our year in person. We will all have the same book to use remotely and refer to as we read together. We will use the book, finger flashlight, and reading pointer throughout the year for shared reading and literacy activities. The message of the book and the shared experience of working with the text and tools will help us form our classroom "family".
