With these new books, my students will begin to identify themselves as readers. Our classroom library will be a place that my students can begin to discover themselves and the world. They will have the tools to begin to read independently and build stamina. These books will be cherished and shared. The students’ thoughts and reactions will be discussed and recorded. Students will read at school alongside their teacher and classmates, and at home alongside family. These books will help create readers who are given the time to read and the guidance to comprehend. Closing the gap requires that our students are strong readers. These books will foster a reading culture that motivates and nurtures students on their way to experiencing the joy of reading-that is my goal.
