Art education not only motivates and inspires students, it also teaches higher level thinking and teamwork. Problem solving skills and creative and critical thinking, the very competencies that tomorrow’s employers are looking for, are taught in the art disciplines. Teens who are given opportunities in the Arts become confident and empathetic adults. The arts not only help make life beautiful, it connects people deeply, opening the world and its cultures, and opening eyes. Art education has also been connected to gains in self efficacy, cognitive processing, math, reading, and verbal skills. Art supplies are mainly nonrenewable, limited resources. Because of budget cuts and COVID-19, we are compelled to ask for funding to help support arts instruction for our students, the future leaders of our world. In addition, an Arts class is a required course for graduation from SAEL in order for students to be eligible for four year colleges or universities. This is an important skill that has been recognized as necessary for entrance into and success in higher education settings.
