Multicultural education is when teachers create a harmonious classroom for their diverse group of students. One way to do this is to bring in the students primary language into the classroom. Reading is always important and reading in the students' primary language will make them feel valued. As teachers, we have to incorporate the students heritage into the classroom. Students must develop and maintain their cultural competence, for example when learning about the universe the teacher can introduce the Mayans civilization or reference it. That is one reason why my students will benefit from reading books in Spanish.
