Many of my students' life experiences are limited to a couple block radius of the school. Books, both hard copy and digital, provide students with a glimpse of life outside their neighborhood and open the door to opportunities. While there is no doubt the current pandemic impacts all our students, it is even more so for our students with special needs. A book scanner will allow me to quickly scan books, magazines, and other texts from our classroom and school library to use during our distance learning lessons, so students are able to access these texts to practice specific skills. In addition the book scanner doubles as a document camera and will allow me to project and annotate texts during our one-on-one and small group distance learning sessions. Most of my students have no or limited access to books at home and the book scanner will allow us to provide them with a time and place to interact with a variety of texts even when our school is closed. At the end of the day, the most important thing we can do for our students is help them develop a love of reading and a passion for learning. Your generous donation will help my students on their journey to be life long learners.
