I want to create a library of engaging picture books and provide fun, learning activities to use with individual students, in small groups, and during whole-class push-ins. Picture books reinforce and teach various speech and language skills like vocabulary, description, inferencing, grammar, and so much more! The card activities will provide extra reinforcement of these skills. This is extremely valuable for students with speech and language deficits. Additionally, picture books create opportunities for students to learn about problems and solutions, about dealing with difficult emotions, and how to get along with others. During class push-ins, as well as small group sessions, reading books provides opportunities for students to discuss ideas together, share experiences and thoughts, and understand the perspective of others. Many students were isolated during distance learning due to COVID-19, so these skills are even more critical at this time. Lamination will help purchased materials to last longer and allow them to be sanitized between students, which is especially needed during this pandemic.
