It is extremely important to me that my students are able to see themselves with in their classroom. I believe the simplest kind of representation comes in the form of books and pictures. My students love story time, but sometimes they get lost because they can’t relate to the characters or have no knowledge of the setting or language. With these books I have reimagined story time. Reading books with characters that look like my students can help them better connect with the text, which will increase their understanding of the concept being taught, whether that’s dialogue, making inferences, or simply making connections.
