This project will fund mentor texts that can be read aloud to my students. Mentor texts are a great way to teach various concepts and to facilitate discussions surrounding social emotional topics such as kindness, diversity, and empathy. This matters because our school emphasizes PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports) expectations and fostering environments where students feel safe. Picture books also allow us to delve deeper into the lives of people from different cultures or important figures in history. We will also use them to support activities such as writing, art, and partner talk. We can practice skills such as making predictions, inferring, summarizing, and using context clues.
