COVID-19 and prolonged distance learning has forever changed how we see and experience education. Students are now accustomed to having the freedom to work in different types of spaces. At home, students don't sit at the same desk all day. Why should we expect children to stay sedentary at school? My dream classroom includes standing desks and flexible seating options like floor seats, wobble chairs, and ball seats that will enable my students to work where they are comfortable and easily collaborate with their classmates. The handful of days each week that students come to school will be the only social interaction they have with their peers. It would be irresponsible to not harness student enthusiasm for school by encouraging safe teamwork to push rigor and depth of learning.
