Traditionally, the majority of characters in children's literature have been white. While these books have been and will continue to be enjoyed for decades, children of color have often been denied the experience of seeing themselves represented in these stories. Allow children to say, "I see me!" in the books they enjoy. As we strive for an anti-racist world, we need to find every opportunity to celebrate the myriad beautiful cultures that make up our cities, communities, and classrooms. The books included in this project will give my students the experience of enjoying stories and illustrations about people who look and live like they do, while also learning about cultures other than their own. This collection represents the many cultures that make up my class (and more) through uplifting stories and quality literature.
