I will be starting our morning meeting each day (virtually) with a read aloud. This is a time for students to escape, enjoy a story, and listen to fluent reading. A major goal of mine is to create the love of reading in the hearts of my students. We will use these books to start to have meaningful conversations around race, equity, equality, and all around kindness. Our classroom needs more books featuring main characters of color. So many of the books in our libraries are straight, white main characters. I want to celebrate all students in my class and let them know they matter.
