The pandemic has created many challenges for my science classes as many children were not fully prepared for the academic standards and rigor of 6th grade science. Many of the students also had limited opportunities to interact and engage with students in a classroom setting due to the virtual (at-home) learning requirement during COVID-19. Being able to collaborate, explore and problem solve in a science lab setting is pivotal to their understanding of the academic content standards. Therefore, to foster an engaging learning environment in our science lab with their peers, it is imperative to incorporate hands-on learning activities that allow students to explore and solve real world problems in our science lab. With our students being back to school full time, we need to replenish our supplies of foam board for our thermal heating and cooling projects. In addition, our grade level has very few prepared slides for our study on life. We hope to bolster our number of slides, so more students will have access to observe them under the microscope throughout that unit.
