Our first graders love to read and would love to read with a partner and share excitement about the the books they are reading. This school year is like no other with the new safety regulations in place, and it has made partner reading a nonexistent. Partner reading is so important in first grade. It not only helps build reading and communication skills, it helps them get excited about reading. There is something extra fun and special about getting to share a book with a friend. The WhisperPhone Duet is an acoustical telephone set that would help my students build reading skills and stay excited about reading by allowing them to read with a partner. The WhisperPhone Duet creates an acoustically-clear connection between two readers, which will allow my students to hear a reading partner while staying safe by wearing a mask and having space between them. The donations to this project will not only help keep my students excited about reading during this challenging school year, but also help them become stronger readers and better communicators.
