How do I describe my students? It’s not as simple of a task as it may seem; particularly, when I’m faced with assigning a description to the whole, rather than to each individual. The students that I have the privilege to teach are as wildly unique as the inhabitants of the ocean, and I am unsure that I could give any of these bright and brave beings the justice that they deserve within the confines of a short paragraph; suffice it to say, that if I have to search for commonalities, their desires are where we should begin. First and foremost, my students want to be inspired to learn. They want to interact with curricular materials that spark their interest and ignite a passion for learning. Secondly, they want to succeed. Like a genie, I help to grant their wishes, but I am only able to do so because they display the courage and the determination to step out on that ledge called “learning” and risk it all.
