Our project truly started two years ago. Let's rewind to that time: 2018. Deane Bozeman School is a K-12 school located in the rural part of Panama City, Florida. 150 or more students are instructed daily by a single teacher. As the new 6th grade science teacher, I went to my department head for a class set of goggles. Ms. Newsome, her first year as department head, was sure we had goggles somewhere. Between the grades of 6-12, there has to be a decent set of goggles. Upon our search, we discovered the mess left behind by years and years of science learning. We had spent many after-school hours, and most of our summers purging the science department. We were under the impression we only needed to organize it but we were sadly mistaken. The fun part about science is that it is always changing! This means Ms. Mallard's 7th grade resources from 2004 were slightly out of date. We tried to salvage what we found and discarded items that were out of date or compliance. The one thing we did not get to purge or salvage was those goggles, because we never found them! You must be happy to hear, we completed phase one: the purge. Now, onto phase two: the restock. Restocking the science department does take time and money, but additionally, it truly requires patience and a little love, for science that is. Furthermore, it is not only for the students and the class, but for the mental health of the future science teachers of our department! It is not easy preparing for lab activities when you aren't even sure what you have. Hopefully, this year we will have new goggles, and a new goggle sanitization cabinet, with your help, of course!
