First grade is a critical year for children to learn and master phonological and phonics skills for them to become confident and proficient readers. I teach these skills every day in whole class and small group activities. It is very important for me to see their mouths as I teach them to make sure they correctly understand and learn these essential skills. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic it is important that I insure my students and I are safe while learning these important skills. Currently, I am preparing for 20-28 students to receive in person instruction in my classroom this fall. Students will wear face masks during the day, and then switch to wear these much needed face shields for reading instruction time. Many of my students live in low income households with parents who are struggling financially and it will be too much to require parents to provide a face mask and a face shield for their students to come to school. Please consider donating to my project so I can effectively teach these essential reading skills to all of my students. Thank you!
