Obstacles are everywhere when we think about the uncertainties of teaching during this pandemic but we must find ways to keep our students moving forward. My students will create process journals (using the binder rings) and learn to use the drawing pencils and Prismacolors to document their ideas and emotions. Middle schoolers need healthy outlets and these supplies will help them have access to some of the highest quality materials to express and process their world. Students will explore layering techniques to create depth and rich tones which Prismacolors are known for. I will be asking students to create both abstract marks that represent different emotions as well as exploring color psychology and more traditional drawing techniques. The projects will offer both skill building lessons as well as Social/Emotional responses to help students work through any mental health issues, loneliness or other life obstacles thrown their way. I want my students to know they are not in this alone but can use paper and pencil, ideas and emotions, to create something uniquely them and share it with their class and teacher in a safe space.
