Interactive games and engaging activities are so much fun for students that it doesn't feel like learning! These chosen unique and interactive games might seem like common toys (yes) but for my students, these games lend naturally to academic learning and relationship building. Schools, especially title l schools are always so short on money these types of engaging learning materials are rarely afforded.
Little things make a big difference! Students engage more, learn more, and accomplish more with active learning. Individuals, pairs of students, small groups, and whole class; I envision introducing one game or activity at a time as I build that one game into multiple learning and relationship building opportunities in my classroom. Once a game has been introduced, incorporated and enjoyed, I envision that particular game will be put away yet available for reward time or indoor recess, etc.
Relationship skills: send boulders down the ramp on the Construction Site and see how much fun it is to play together, jump and chant and take turns with the Ankle Skip Ball, work together to beat Simon, create teams & awards for high scores on Bop It, surprise small groups with Crocodile Dentist, observe and discuss Crystal Aquarium growth, interact to solve beginner to expert challenges with Gravity Maze, and giggle about the title Invasion of the Cow Snatchers and post level accomplishments!
Academic skills: send a boulder with a CVC word written on it into a dump truck on the Construction Site, jump and chant math facts with the Ankle Skip Ball, increase memory muscle and beat Simon, challenge yourself & friends on Bop It, learn a sight word and press a tooth on Crocodile Dentist, graph and chart Crystal Aquarium growth, build logic and problem solving skills with Gravity Maze and Cow Snatchers!
