I teach at an all girls urban charter school. My girls come from an area of high poverty and crime. My scholars demonstrate every day that they have the power and passion to overcome any obstacle that life will give to them. It is my job to best prepare them by giving them the tools to help them excel. To do this, I dedicate 3+ hours every day to literacy. One of the most important attributes that every one of my scholars demonstrates is the desire to learn and go to college. My scholars are absolutely obsessed with reading. Their favorite reward for hard work and good behavior is more time reading and the opportunity to "shop" for books in our classroom library.
