My students with autism and other communication disorders learn best with hands-on, engaging activities. Due to COVID-19, I must consider using materials that can be easily sanitized in between student sessions. The materials I have chosen will help them master their IEP goals. The Early Language Activity boxes will allow them to categorize items using manipulatives. The pictures allow students of all reading levels to participate. The story sequencing cards also allow students of all reading levels to sequence events in a story. All of the items on my list use picture supports which are a key prompt in working with students with communication disorders. The organization supplies will allow me to organize all of the materials, and I am able to wipe them down with a disinfectant wipe. These materials will provide opportunities for them to use expressive and receptive language skills. My students thrive in environments that allow them to use their speech and language skills during pragmatic and play-based therapy. They require materials that allow them to understand and use spontaneous language. Now, more than ever, they need play-based therapy!
