If I have enough copies of the book I can give each student a copy of the book, which will allow them to take notes from home. It will also help the students to see characters who are not out of reach for them, and feel more relatable. Too often in high schools students go all four years without reading a female author, or an author who is not white. Students need to have the opportunity to hear the voice of others, to be able to widen their own perspective.
