I will use the various books I have requested to build a library so that my English Learners students can read at home to themselves and their families. Most of them have no books at home. I will teach The House on Mango Street, which has many universal themes and will particularly resonate with my students as the author, Sandra Cisneros, writes about her experiences growing up as a Latina girl in a neighborhood in the Los Angeles area of the United States. They will learn many literary terms, rich vocabulary, and be able to journal about their own experiences. I will be able to make and display anchor charts to better teach reading and writing with the whiteboard stand. Many of my students are unable to afford basic school supplies and other related items, so I have requested some of those to ease the financial burden. Having resources and relevant up-to-date materials makes a huge difference for our learners to move forward and progress towards English proficiency.
