This is my second year of teaching, and last year I had books donated to my classroom library to start my classroom off. These were helpful, but I knew my students needed more books that not only featured characters who looked like them but could give them an insight into other cultures, races, and identities different from theirs. My class last year loved our social justice unit in ELA when we learned about Rosa Parks, Cesar Chavez, and Harriet Tubman, among others. We could use more books that explore other perspectives! Books are one of the best and most magical ways to do this. I already have a collection started up, but any other additions would help.
