Unfortunately, my classroom does not provide students with proper seating arrangements to learn, engage in experiments and activities and collaborate with their peers. I am looking to Donors Choose to help me get seven rectangular tables for my classroom. I believe by having the rectangular tables it will allow for students to engage in their work, feel like they are in a science lab, allow them to partner or work in groups more efficient and effectively, and allow for more organized activities to take place in class.
Currently, I have four large circle tables, which holds four students at each and perimeter seating. The perimeter seating does not allow for students to engage with other students during partner or group work leading students to feel uncomfortable from constantly turning around and sitting in awkward positions throughout class. The circle tables also create problems for students who have to sit with their backs towards the front or students who are in wheel chairs. I have asked my administration if they would be willing to replace my circle tables and make accommodations for more effective seating in my classroom however, they do not have any rectangular tables and will not order more.
