My students thrive on structure and routine and require visuals to help them transition through the various activities that occur daily in the classroom. The timers will make the abstract concept of time more concrete for them by allowing them to see how much time is left. My students often get lost or confused in the hustle and bustle of the classroom and these materials will make it easier for them to understand what is going on in their environment and also the expectations of how they are to respond to their environment. The cardstock, velcro, laminitating pouches, and page protectors will be used to create visuals for my students. Just as adults use a calendar to stay organized my students need visual schedules to see what will be occurring through out their day. In addition to a full day schedule they need visual schedules for individual tasks/assignments. We will also use first/then boards along with I am working for visuals to motivate students to complete less preferred tasks. The students also need visuals for social skill interventions. Each student will have their own binder to store and organize their personalized visuals. The pencil pouch will house all of the pieces the students will be manipulating as they interact with the visuals. The headphones will make it easier for them to concentrate by blocking out extraneous audio information. These materials will make it easier for my students to work independently not only in their classroom but across all environments within the school with minimal support from teachers and peers.
