My classroom is exclusively 9th grade. We are part of The Freshman Experience, a program designed to transition them from middle to high school. My students come from a very small community where most people look like they do. Nestled into the Ohio Valley, our school services a majority that are benefitting from free and reduced lunches. One of my main goals as an educator is to provide my students with experiences that open their minds and increase their stores of empathy. I work on building a real sense of community between the kids which helps them stay open to new ideas.
