As educators, we are constantly adapting to meet the needs of our young learners whether teaching onsite, remotely, or in a hybrid setting. One of those needs, to keep children safe and healthy, has taken on greater urgency this upcoming school year. Sharing materials and supplies will no longer be common practice. Hands-on learning is proven to be more effective at helping students grasp what they're taught. Not only is hands-on learning engaging, but it offers practice in problem solving and critical thinking and often results in a physical creation. Individual tool kits will allow my students to have hands-on materials at their disposal so that they can successfully develop skills through teacher-led instruction or individual practice in a safe, germ-free way. Additionally, these math kits can be taken home should we return to remote learning. By providing individual kits of hands-on materials, there will be less chance of spreading germs within the classroom. Each child will have an individual math kit; a supply box filled with numbers, number lines, counters, dice, spinners, and more to aid in developing number sense. Each child will also have a reading/writing binder with a zippered pouch that will be filled with essential resources to promote literacy. Individualized tool kits will help my kindergarten students to learn in the best possible way safely.
