Can you imagine if IKEA's instructions were mostly Swedish text with only a few pictures? English Learners must make sense of textbooks full of scientific jargon and demonstrate their knowledge in a language they have not yet mastered. Students learn faster and express themselves more clearly with visual aids. A color poster printer in our classroom will allow me to make customized posters on-demand to support their learning of both English and science. I could print labeled anchor charts, words walls, and sentence frames perfectly suited to their needs. Students could even design their own science research posters to communicate their findings from labs!
