The books and various series I am hoping to have in my classroom will allow my students to see and read about main characters from different cultures- allowing them to experience a new culture through way of literature. It is so important for children to be exposed to other cultures and their way of life through literature, especially when their immediate environment and life circumstances may not allow them that exposure otherwise. Through books and series, students can learn about what other cultures eat, their traditions, family dynamics, etc. Many children are never exposed to other cultures, simply because they don't have opportunities to be. When opportunities arise, often times the new culture is so foreign to children, they do not know how to connect. Opening the door for children to read an learn about other cultures on a level that relates to them is a huge step in the right direction of assisting children of different cultures to connect in a meaningful way.
