This year the carpet in my room is being replaced with tile, leaving the floor bare and hard. This rug offers a place for students to sit comfortably that also leaves room open for free movement without cluttering the room with unnecessary chairs. The edges of the carpet have squares in them, making it easy to assign seats. The musical symbols in the squares of this particular rug would give students an easy reminder of where their seat is as well as increasing their recognition of musical symbols. Having the musical staff present and viewed on a daily basis would increase my students' curiosity in reading music. This particular staff rug would also offer an opportunity to play movement staff games to get my students excited about reading music and playing recorders. Not only does this rug offer comfortable seating and stimulating visuals, but it would also help in dampening the levels of noise that will now be increased due to the new tile. Tile increases the reverberation of sound from recorders and pitched and unpatched instruments, which could lead to damage to my students' hearing. Laying down a rug will help dampen the loudness of instruments and protect my students from hearing loss.
