My students and I are really looking forward to a better year, but with considerations to current health and safety guidelines, there are a few important pieces of equipment that could help them attend class more safely, and participate more effectively. The fans and audio equipment I'm requesting will work together to support the safety, comfort, and communication capabilities of my students! These fans in particular are excellent pieces of equipment that produce strong directional airflow with minimal noise. They are rated for library use, and are amazing at what they do. With them, I will be able to provide quality ventilation in line with Department of Health guidelines to help prevent the transmission of COVID-19. The added bonus? My room is one of the hottest on campus. These fans will also provide some much-needed cooling, helping my students feel much more comfortable in the classroom. With the amplifier, speaking students will be much easier to hear throughout the room even when masked - this is especially important for quieter students who already have trouble projecting their voices. A small, adjustable two-microphone system should be perfect for our needs in helping muffled, quiet voices carry further for others to hear. This will allow us to have more effective collaborative discussions, regardless of where anyone is sitting or standing. Speaking and Listening standards do make up a considerable part of our curriculum, and much of this is practiced as part of our everyday in-person process as we analyze/discuss/debate texts and ideas, as well as a myriad of writing processes. The amp will help to preserve this in the midst of social distancing and mask wearing!
