My students are in need of a diverse collection of books that portray characters and experiences that are as unique and diverse as the children themselves. One of the best parts of being a teacher is being able to captivate my students' attention while reading meaningful stories in our classroom community. Books offer an opportunity for students to interact with characters and situations in a way that is non-threatening, yet powerful. I am hoping that having these books will allow me to teach important messages and lessons in a kid-friendly way, all while allowing my students to experience characters that look and sound the way they do. It is so important that from a young age my students learn that they are special, valued, and can do and be anything they want to be!
