Many kindergartners start to excel as readers around March. However, their progress was hindered because they had to maneuver learning on their own remotely. This awful pandemic disrupted their learning at school. The beginning of coming school year will be devoted on bridging the gap. We want to start them reading on the first day of First Grade. Because they are from low-income households, reading books are extremely limited. It has always been one of our learning goals to get our students to love reading. To become good readers, they must read and read and read. We want to provide all the first graders with Reading Bags on the first day of school. They can bring independently selected and teacher-assigned books home to practice reading right from the start.
