As a second year 2nd grade teacher I have a responsibility to my students to create an environment that celebrates and welcomes diversity. I believe one way I can begin to accomplish this goal is by having a variety of picture books that depict multiple cultures and have diverse characters. These types of stories should be easily accessible by students. It's important to me that all students see and read books that spotlight diverse characters relatable to their own lives. Books are an amazing way to not only provide representation for all students, but to use as a teaching tool to help them learn about and value cultures from all around the world. Thank you so much for considering helping to create a classroom climate that celebrates and promotes all forms of diversity!
